Systech speaks at the Engineering Advancement Association of Japan (ENAA)

March 06, 2015

David Smith, Systech’s Director for Japan, and Shingo Ohno, Systech’s Associate Director for Japan, in collaboration with AIG/AIU representatives recently delivered talks about ‘Risk Mitigation Measures in International Construction Projects’ at the Engineering Advancement Association of Japan (ENAA) in Tokyo.

The ENAA was established in 1978 as a non-profit organization supported by the Ministry of International Trade & Industry (the present the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)). The ENAA aims at developing diversified activities such as advancement of technological capabilities and promotion of technical development. The ENAA is recognized as a major organization in the Japanese engineering/construction industry with a membership of 188 Japanese contractors/engineering firms.

Shingo kicked off the seminar with an overview of construction risks and mitigation measures in international projects. David then provided insightful tips on risk reduction measures during pre and post-contract stages, with a particular focus on commercial and contract management. This was followed by an industry relevant case study from the Taiwan High Speed Rail project. David concluded by stressing the importance of proactive commercial/contract management with early recognition of changes and notifications. AIG/AIU continued the seminar explaining risk mitigations through their insurance products including political risk insurance.

The event drew a full-house with over 74 delegates attending from major Japanese companies. Systech’s presentation was well received with 86% of attendees reporting that it either met or exceeded their expectations.
