Texas City Refinery

The Texas City Refinery explosion occurred on March 23, 2005, when a hydrocarbon vapor cloud was ignited and violently exploded at the ISOM isomerization process unit at BP's Texas City refinery in Texas City. The Texas City Refinery was the second-largest oil refinery in the state, and the third-largest in the United States with an input capacity of 437,000 barrels per day.

Systech was appointed by a large international corporate law firm as experts to carry out detailed analysis of the repair and renewal works. Systech carried out a detailed search and review of each piece of equipment in the refining process in order to draw up an as-built schedule showing how the works were repaired and bought back into service. This involved reading and researching over 93,000 individual documents via an electronic database system that allowed each document to be coded against the related refining equipment.
