Day in the life - Ahmed Sedky

Ahmed is a senior forensic delay analyst and construction planner with 18 years’ experience in construction, energy and transportation within North America and the Middle East Regions. He has prepared delay claims for contractors in complex projects using different delay analysis methodologies, and has also assessed these claims from the Clients perspective.

What is your typical day?

My day starts with the to-do list which I check against the weekly list. This is followed by our daily Systech team brief where we share the project updates, agree our immediate tasks and update our look ahead schedule in the context of overall project targets and deliverables. The typical day will include schedule analysis either for monthly as-built updates or claims. I also meet with the delivery team and the main contractor for periodic reviews or to resolve pending issues.

What are the interesting aspects of your work?

When I carry out the schedules forensic analysis to find the reason for delay and scrutinizing the findings against other schedule records. It is like the thrill of solving a mystery case or solving a puzzle.

What are the challenges?

Finding good quality contemporaneous records that allows me to carry out the delay analysis.

What training and support has Systech given you?

I will soon commence a course run by the Ontario Dispute Adjudication for Construction Contracts (ODACC) to become an adjudicator under Ontario’s new Construction Act.

What words of advice would you offer someone thinking of working for Systech?

Join without thinking! Great company and great team to work with. You will learn a lot from the highly experienced people in the business.

My career goals are all around progressing in the construction disputes field. Systech has provided this exposure and knowledge.

In a nutshell I would say it is our specialist construction experience gained on projects throughout the world. Systech is all about construction and we will always have an answer to any commercial or technical issue.

What has been your greatest achievement working for Systech?

Working on a landmark project which has become the precedent case for Covid-19 claims in Canada and North America.

Tell us about a project where you have learnt a key lesson?

All projects on which I work provide valuable lessons, however the key for me is records, records, records. With no records or weak records it is very difficult to put together a good case. This is why I love our daily report application as it captures all the required records to manage the project and to prosecute or defend claims.
