Day in the life - Mauro Bez

I am a Senior Consultant who qualified in Brazil (5 years BSc in Chemical Engineering) and am a certified PMP from the Project Management Institute (PMI). I offer our clients a range of skills; claims management, contract/commercial management and as an expert witness for arbitrations.

What is your typical day?

At present, I am working on an arbitration and several disputes across Latin America including in Brazil. I do not have a pre-defined routine: I could be advising on commercial and contractual issue or preparing technical reports for disputes (which includes gathering evidence, witness statements, analyzing data and performing forensic analysis). Alternatively I could be participating in an arbitration, preparing the technical opinion of the allegations or acting as expert witness.

What are the interesting aspects of your work?

It is very exciting to work on projects around the world, across a range of sectors. Systech has given me the opportunity to experience different cultures, languages and types of business.

What are the challenges?

Understanding the specific requirements and objectives of clients from differing locations, cultures and jurisdictions.

What training and support has Systech given you?

The support and training Systech has given me has been very important to my professional development and performance. This support started as I joined the business in 2014, when Systech arranged for me to attend a training course on claims management.

Over the subsequent years I have received mentorship from several senior colleagues and recently, Systech has sponsored my application to become a “court expert” in Brazil, where a specialized course is required. This qualification will allow me to act as an expert throughout the Brazilian legal system.

What words of advice would you offer someone thinking of working for Systech?

Working for Systech means that you must challenge yourself every day. Systech offers exciting experiences both professionally and culturally, and it is up to you to make the most of this opportunity.

What is the culture like?

Systech looks to offer the opportunity to take on as much responsibility as you can handle, accelerating your career growth. They have allowed me to fulfill my goals to experience diverse professional activities, working environments, multiculturality and languages.

What makes working for Systech different from the competition?

We say that our office is the client office. At Systech we aim to be on site or in the project office with the client so we are close to the action and can clearly and quickly see the issues as they arise.

What has been your greatest achievement working for Systech?

Obtaining the client’s respect and trust through my daily work, leading to extended and repeat appointments. It is good to establish long term relationships with clients and to have them ask for you to advise them on their projects.
