Systech Law participates in the 4th International BRICS Forum
Systech Law’s Tom Allen, Global Managing Partner, recently represented Systech Law at the 4th International BRICS Forum during Beijing Arbitration Week, joining a panel discussion on the use of AI in arbitration and AI governance.
The international forum brought together leading arbitration practitioners, institutions and industry representatives from across the BRICS jurisdictions and beyond to discuss some of the issues shaping the future of international dispute resolution.
A key focus of the panel was how the conversation around AI is evolving. As its use becomes increasingly established, the question is moving beyond whether AI should form part of the arbitration process and towards how its use should be governed.
Tom highlighted the importance of greater transparency around when and how AI is being used, particularly where its role extends beyond administrative efficiencies into substantive analysis. He also addressed the need for clearer and more consistent rules across institutions, tribunals and jurisdictions.
The challenge is to establish governance that enables the efficiencies AI can offer while maintaining human accountability, confidentiality and confidence in the arbitral process.
As Tom summarised:
“The question is no longer whether AI will be used in arbitration, but whether we can establish sufficiently clear and consistent rules governing how it is used. Greater transparency and greater uniformity will be essential to maintaining confidence in the arbitral process.”
It is a challenge that extends beyond arbitration.
Stephen Rayment, Founder, CEO & Group Managing Director of Systech, recently explored how Systech is approaching the responsible adoption of AI across its own professional services — balancing new efficiencies with governance, confidentiality, professional judgement and human accountability.
